Upper Basalt Geothermal Exploration Project

Map of Upper Basalt Exploration Sites

PROJECT:  The Upper Basalt Exploration Project is located in an area west of Highway 395, north of State Route 203, and northeast of Shady Rest Park, and entirely on public lands within the Inyo National Forest.  Mammoth Pacific proposes to (1) drill and monitor up to nine small diameter observation holes and (2) drill, test and complete up to four large diameter geothermal exploration wells from a total of nine sites.

STATUS:  The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are currently preparing an environmental assessment in conformance with requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act, and we expect that the assessment will find, as we did, that there will be no significant impact. Mammoth Pacific conducted a public tour of the sites on June 29, 2002.  This project will also utilize best management practices and implement various mitigation measures.
